2001 Sabre 402
CARIBOU is a fine example of a spectacular sailboat. Good looks, wonderful
sailing characteristics, well thought-out interior plan, fine craftsmanship, first
rate equipment, and the very best of care. Built in 2001, she is hull number 85
of 112 vessels in the Sabre 402 line which was “Boat of the Year” when
introduced in 1997. She’s been loved and exceptionally well maintained and
needs nothing more to provide her next owner with years of great sailing.

Entering from the companionway, the main salon is impressive. The varnished cherry cabinetry, ash ceilings and teak and holly cabin sole are stunning, giving the feeling of warmth and luxury. Because Sabre utilized the wide 13'4" beam, the accommodations feel large and the headroom is great at 6'6". Comfortable settees are to port and starboard, with the port side convertible to a double berth. An elegant centerline table with folding leaves will comfortably seat six at meal time. Aft and to starboard is the forward-facing nav station, which features a sophisticated electronics system. Aft of the nav station is the head with direct access to the aft cabin and features a separate shower area to keep the rest of the space dry when showering.
- Original cherry interior is in great condition
- Ultra-suede salon cushions
- Teak and holly cabin sole
- Air Conditioner: 16,000 BTU for main salon and aft cabin and a 7,000 BTU for the forward cabin. Compressor for the forward unit is located aft, reducing noise in the forward cabin.
- 12V fans
- Superior ventilation with (2) large and (6) small deck hatches plus (10) opening ports. In addition, two chrome dorades ensure additional circulation of the interior air
- Flatscreen TV on bulkhead
In the forward cabin there is a large double berth (6'10" at center) surrounded by hanging lockers, storage lockers, and ample shelving; also in the forward cabin is a vanity with Corian counter, sink, and mirror for guests to freshen up in private. Additional storage is under the berth.
In the aft cabin is a large double berth (6'10") with storage spaces and drawers underneath. The berth's occupants can recline with open spaces overhead - unlike the aft cabins of many boats of this type. Outboard of the berth is a long shelf with lockers, a set of drawers, and a large hanging locker. At the forward end of the cabin on centerline is a convenient magazine/book rack. There is also direct access to the head via the shower stall.
The U-shaped galley features a large Corian countertop for preparing an elaborate dinner at anchor or a quick snack underway. The dual Sea Frost top and front loading refrigerator and additional freezer compartment are a necessity for stocking up on provisions for an extended cruise and run on both shore or engine power. There is a double stainless sink with raw and filtered water spigots, three-burner Force 10 propane stove/oven and microwave to round out the space. A full compliment of galleyware conveys with the boat.
Created by Jim Taylor and the Sabre Design Team, the 402 seamlessly dovetails impressive speed and performance with all the elegance and craftsmanship of a proper yacht. Its a beautiful design that's fast enough to hold her own on the race course and comfortable enough for a couple to cruise. The wider beam is carried further aft than in her predecessors, allowing for a roomy cockpit and wide decks. Sabre spared no expense to make the 402 design the most comfortable, safe and easy to use boat in her class.
